That's the point. Because the system has influenced the individual to just take the shit and not stand up for themselves, it has perpetuated a really screwed up mentality in most kids.
There's a firm line between constructive criticism and bullying. I'm not saying go out and punch someone who grades your paper and adds comments to it. I'm saying for the kids that dread showing up to school or riding the bus each day because there's an asshole or group of assholes tormenting them, they should have the right to beat the shit out of those people. The point is that bullying went from being something kids did, knowing that if they pushed enough they risked retaliation. Now however, retaliation has worse consequences making for an extremely flawed and shitty cycle. How can we stop bullying if the only way we have to defend ourselves against it is punished and frowned upon so heavily?
We teach kids that standing up for yourself is how to properly handle it. You can report it to an authority, but we already know that they won't handle it. You can only trust one person in the world: that's yourself. You can only trust yourself to stand up for yourself, because a shitty board of directors or teaching staff isn't going to do jack fucking shit.
