John had possibly gone AWOL, and out of ONI's control because he's no longer an order obeying killing machine.
This guy could be out to bring him in/take him out.

Edited by Charlemagne: 5/16/2014 6:45:14 PMThat's what I'm thinking.
It could also mean that ONI thinks that John is a loose end who is also a liability. A lab rat that is no longer needed in the new age. This new Spartan very well could be John's greatest challenge.
Think of my post as a TL;DR then.

Pretty much. This new person could be like the Winter Soldier minus the memory loss.
-
Possibly. Wouldn't surprise me if he was experimented on too. It is ONI after all.
-
I imagine that they'd try to use the old procedures on him, the ones they used on the Spartan-IIs, as well as some new ones. They only difference between the two could be that the new Spartan might be better but John has more experience.

John has "luck" and is destined to win.
-
In other words, John is controlled by an actual person and still has a few more games to go.

-
A while back they said that John will be the protagonist of a few more games.

I had a theory just after Halo 4 that they would discreetly replace the John with someone like him who sounded and acted similar. Maybe that's what will happen with this Spartan.
