By 2020, SpaceX might have completed a manned space flight test. A decade or so behind schedule, but hey, we all know privatization was a great idea. It took NASA a decade to put a man on the moon, I'm sure the private market will get someone into orbit in 25 years.

Except NASA already can, has, and could again if people gave them the resources to.

Yes, NASA could do it, but in our infinite wisdom, we gutted our manned program before a replacement was even 15 years away from ready.
