I'm more surprised that 23% of Republicans held a favorable view of socialism.

It shows you that political parties are not homogenous groups. Especially when there are only two parties in a country of hundreds of millions of diverse peoples. The other reason is that people associate with certain parties because of someone close to them having strong affiliations in that party.
