obviously. but if these people are so opposed to federal aid and "entitlements", they should refuse such funding.

What you're forgetting is that those who oppose federal funding are the ones who don't receive it. In SC the majority of our Democratic residents vote that way because they don't want to lose their benefits. You'll find just as much of them in trailer parks as the anti-government rednecks. If the map were by county instead of by state it'd be a lot more telling.
