A shielded Hive Wizard in the Devil's Lair Gameplay Resisted Electrical damage.
This is an interesting point... Could certain damage types overcome certain enemies' shields more easily? That would be cool to see...
Edit: The orbs are called Orbs of Light. They are created upon special circumstances (killing enemies with Special weapons or Supers), and are only visible to your teammates. They can then pick up the orbs, feeding their specials. This allows a team to cooperate and become a decimating force, as the article stated.
I can't wait to see this mechanic utilized to its full effect. A fireteam of seasoned players could roll through a strike, rotating their supers & special weaps at strategic points, taking out concentrations of enemies at a frightening rate. Squad tactics with Supers!

If you've ever played Borderlands, they have a very similar system. Fire elemental weapons deal extra damage against unshielded enemies. Corrosive is effective against armoured or robotic enemies. Electric damage drains shields faster. (This doesn't seem to be the case in Destiny, as per the fact you quoted) Slag weakens enemies to all other forms of damage.
