How Destiny Turns Into Diablo...New EG Article

Fresh Meat – Brand Spanking New EG Article. Enjoy.
Tried and tested role-playing game mechanics are at play here, layered on top of the 30 seconds of fun first-person shooting gameplay loop Bungie is known for. Bungie's Halo games steered clear of a progression system for the most part. All players in Halo's much-loved competitive multiplayer, for example, began each match on a level playing field. Not so in Destiny. In Destiny, improving your character with better equipment, weapons and abilities is the name of the game.
This is well worth remembering.
At the cap more Strikes present themselves, six-player Raids become available and there are higher levels of PvP you can engage in with better weapons and armour. You can also unlock more abilities on your focus, which is a "longer tail process", Green says. Expect to work long and hard to unlock all the third tier options within your focus.

When Bungie talks about adding something new to the Destiny world every day, it's referring to a raft of content. New activities will be on the high end of the new daily content, but realistically what we're looking at here for the most part are new challenges, achievements and gear to obtain. "But there will be something new to do every single day," Parsons insists. "And that's cool to think about from a planning perspective. We have the time to do it right."
Appetizers.

        • It's a good read but a fail comparison. When you step into PvP, you will not be on a level playing field with your opponents. This might sound bad to those (like myself) who greatly enjoy PvP, but it is actually a very good thing. By purposely building PvP without balance in mind, the developers can put their resources towards fun content, instead of homogenizing the statistics. To compare this game to diablo is wrong for two reasons: 1) blizzard is the worst company at balancing any PvP in any game, but omg they try. 2) diablo is a pay to win game, destiny is not.

The more I read about a fast level cap, the more I warm up to the idea. It makes sense in the way of personalization. Everyone one will generally be one of six builds that we currently know of (two for each Guardian). Making it so that you will level up weapons and foci instead of just your base character, is a good move for individual builds in the game. Instead of playing against Gunslinger Hunter builds, Goku Warlocks, and HULK SMASH! Titans, all the while getting used to how they play. Bungie is making it so that you won't know what to expect when playing in the PvP arena. Better learn the maps. As for the open world aspect of it, I'm really liking the idea of not necessarily being locked in to any one specific role.
Expect to work long and hard to unlock all the third tier options within your focus.
I hope unlocking these doesn't turn into a bunch of "skills challenges" like say, prestiging in Titanfall does. We're not all interested in performing parlor tricks to gain the next lvl...
