Lulz, picture this. You can ride a shrike over water, sure. You can't swim though. You hop on a shrike to escape an enemy. They shoot you off. Sink like a brick. DEAD

Armor too heavy :(

Why no swimming? If you can breathe in outer space with those helmets I'm sure you can breathe underwater.

It makes sense, but with how open the world is, adding swimming would either be shallowly done, or would add a whole "underwater exploration" side to the game. Realistically, I don't see swimming being in the game.
-
They wouldn't need to add an underwater element. They could just make it so swimming is on an x axis only.
swimming would either be shallowly done
Ahem, like I was saying.

Edited by H0RSE: 4/23/2014 5:59:54 PM"Shallowly" could still imply the use of a Y axis, albeit a small one. I was simply injecting specifics into how swimming could be accomplished without the need for underwater mechanics.

Edited by J A B: 4/23/2014 3:36:17 PMAHEM, eat a bag of dicks. I'll elaborate on what I was typing about. That was an ether/or statement. Either they have a "good enough" swimming system (shallow), without underwater exploration, or they could go in deeper and allow us to dive and explore. But hey, we don't know what they have in store because Bungie has not shared anything on water travel.

What about doing underwater similarly to Skyrim? Not ugly, but not particularly interesting.

Meh, Elder Scrolls' swimming was okay. How would underwater combat work? How would water affect your equipment?
-
Well, there will be weather anyway, so hopefully water doesn't hurt your equipment. As for underwater combat, maybe it won't happen. Maybe you could shoot a pistol if you're not submerged. I don't think they'll focus on it too much, but I feel like it just wouldn't make sense for them to completely leave it out.
