Do you guys not clean the water from after its been in the reservoir or something?
It is, but the water isn't drained all at once because it's done little by little. Because of this all 38 million gallons have to be drained at once in order to test it for various diseases the man may have been carrying.
-
... Why not test the man instead?
-
It's still incredibly unsanitary to serve drinking water that's been pissed in anyway. It's a public health concern.
-
True, it just seems like tunnelling through a mountain rather than walking past it. Test the guy, find out if he is a disease riddled scumbag and/or execute him. Then sanitise the water/dump it.
-
They'd also have to sterilize it to remove any nasty bacteria that may have hitched a ride on the pee train. Having it survive and multiply in your drinking water isn't exactly healthy.

Edited by BannedLemön: 4/17/2014 3:37:09 PMPiss is sterile though, and is mainly water anyway. The amount of piss compared to the amount if water is hardly anything to worry about.
Piss is sterile though
Only right after it leaves your kidneys. Once its in your bladder it can become contaminated with bacteria and other nastiness. And yes, while the risk its minimal it's one of those better safe than sorry instances.
-
Wouldn't it just be much easier to test the guy instead?

There's a possibility that some bacteria could have hitched a ride on the pee train straight into the water supply. It sucks, the risk of it happening is minimal, and it'll cost a lot to do it, but in the end if you want to keep the public health in your best interest you have to bite the bullet and do it.
