I blame Deej for the community outrage due to the little blurp he made.
The reason the community is in an uproar is not because Marty was fired, but because Deej made a naive news statement that makes it seem like Marty decided to leave rather than he was fired. This termination was so sudden and unexpected by both the community and Marty, and all we got was a glib statement. He's not being treated with the respect that someone of his caliber deserves and we are not happy about it.
He easily could have written something more along the lines of:
After over a decade of being an integral part of Bungie, we regret to say that Martin O' Donnell has dismissed from Bungie Studios. In an effort to keep matters private, we will not disclose the circumstances of his termination. We appreciate his incredible work and wish the best in his future endeavors.
Instead of:
For more than a decade, Marty O’Donnell filled our worlds with unforgettable sounds and soundtracks, and left an indelible mark on our fans. Today, as friends, we say goodbye. We know that wherever his journey takes him, he will always have a bright and hopeful future.
We wish him luck in all his future endeavors.
Although well written, its a lie. Marty did not part from Bungie as a friend, he was fired.
This is like giving someone a pat on the back and a smile as you kick them out the door.

Edited by SgT xHotshot: 4/18/2014 2:11:10 PMWell in a recent interview he claims that he is still friends with Bungie and wishes the people he knows well and the company the best with Destiny. So it's tough to say if he actually left as a friend or left bitter and angry. The former just seems more likely due to his time there.

Yeah but you are missing the point, people are blaming him for it because they are ignorant. He may have chosen the wrong words, and not gone into enough detail and yes, he is at fault for doing so. But at the end of the day he may not be able to let slip what has happened and you have to take that into consideration when having a go at DeeJ. (not you in particular)

The uproar is literally over Deej lying about Marty being fired. Some people would still get mad at Marty being fired, that is unavoidable. But it could have been handled in a much better manner and cause far less damage if Deej hadn't have said what he did 5 days after it happened.

So you think DeeJ is able to let it go? He just the community manager, not on the board of directors. He had to address the community on it because that is his job, but not let the technicalities behind it out, because that may cost him his job. Maybe something is going on in Bungie that "the board of directors" do not want people knowing. I didn't even know that Bungie had a board of directors, maybe it has something to do with the publisher ( I know it has been established that it isn't, but maybe thats where the cover up is happening. Maybe whoever said Activision has nothing to do with it is lying)

Again, the way he handled has lead to a complete disaster. I know why it wasn't announced at first, there would have been quite a bit of backlash. But you don't wait for a twitter to announce to the world that you did something shady and then try to cover it up with a lie. That is what has lead to the upheaval of the B.net community. And I'm going to say this since I didn't address this earlier, I understand that it was the Board of Director's decision to fire Marty. No matter how Deej would have handled it, the community would have been in an uproar. With the way it has been officially announced though, it has lead to quite a few of the older members grabbing pitchforks and torches.
