Haha, hard to believe this kind thread even exists here, then again, I don't believe you mean any harm. How does discovering someone you're talking to being a girl prompt the question 'Do you support girl gamers?' It's a bit of a non sequitur to me. But as for my experience with girls/women who'd I call gamers (which are plenty, as a Game Developer), I'd say their general behaviour online is far preferable to their (vocal) male counterpart. On skill level and interests of genre I couldn't tell them apart from men, either. Instead of barring them from play (which is pretty bloody ridiculous), I think they could be motived more on becoming gamers, as the gender ratio can be quite a bit off. The cause for this difference does seem to stem from the current casual paradigm on gaming. Every single girl I met who games regularly is having a hard time doing so not just because of a vocal male minority, but mostly because of their non-gamer peers. The best example I can give is that of my girlfriend. Her parents, school friends, and other social contacts all disapprove of her gaming; because it's something either for children or strictly from men. This pressure seems more present with her female friends, even. A lot of women I meet while studying or working say to experience very similar situations, which I think really hurts the gamer community. The reason why people behave this way is of course fuelled by marketing to a male audience, as well as the long history of gender inequality in games enforcing it. This is getting better; slowly, but it's mostly about making people feel welcome, whatever their gender, race, sexual orientation, or nationality. Amen. Sorry, got a bit carried away there, but I hope it's of some use, anyway.
