Still, very little of the ocean's depths have been fully explored. Certain parts of it may as well be as foreign as the stars to us. I just feel like the sea's have been viewed too much as a path of travel and overlooked by many as a place to explore on its own.
We face just as many issues in space, if not more. I think we'd be able to make much more progress in underwater developments much more quickly if the need were to arise. Perhaps not in the deepest parts of it, but in areas a bit more survivable.
So the point is escape earth because we've used up it's resources. So let's say all of humanity delves into the ocean. We would quickly consume everything in there. So finding a habitable planet would be a far better option.
However, we'd face the same problem on another world, if we were to actually reach it. It might not happen as quickly, but we're going to use up the resources no matter where we go unless we find a way to manage them that results in consumption and replenishment at a relatively equal rate.
I'd be more quick to jump at the idea of space travel, but the fact is there aren't even any habitable planets in our solar system, and we haven't even been able to land a living human being on another planet yet as far as I know. I'm not saying space travel is a wasted effort, if we survive long enough we'll make it more effective one day, but I feel like there's a lot of untapped potential still on this world as well that we could learn to make use of simultaneously.
