We're talking about Merlin, not Saturn. Besides, Merlin didn't even take care of Arthur. He just dumped him on Sir Ector and his son Kay.
-
What the hell are we talking about?
-
In the Arthurian legend, Arthur was given to Merlin as compensation for Merlin giving King Uther the chance to lay down with Igraine who was the wife of the Duke of Cornwall. After Arthur was born, Uther kept his promise and handed him over to Merlin, who proceeded to hand him over to Sir Ector and Sir Kay for no reason whatsoever. Uther dies and the whole country is swept into turmoil cause there is no rightful heir. Merlin created the Sword in The Stone for no justifiable reason and the whole beginning story could have easily been avoided.

he was a dick who liked causing problems, aka a troll. it's simple. he pretty much had a hand in all the legend's problems. and BTW, there was a real king Arthur at one point in history.
-
King Arthur's historical accuracy is the subject of much debate.
-
no, the legend is of debate. there was an arthur and a camelot castle. they've found the ruins and ancient trade records.
-
I don't think there would be a single person who would defend the legend, unless they can prove the existence of fairies, a magic sheath that can cause immortality, and a sword appearing out of a lake from nowhere. And most scholars admit that Camelot is probably entirely fictional.
-
a magic sheath that can cause immortality
well immorality, yes. immortality, no.
-
Or was that Excalibur? One of those two things made it so Arthur couldn't die.
-

a magic sheath that can cause immortality
well immorality, yes. immortality, no.
jeez, what's with you and the recent lack of any sense of humor lately?
[google]what is a vagina[/google]
Are you researching this because of Fate/Zero?
-
Edited by Gaara444: 4/10/2014 3:51:57 AMNot quite. Even when I was very little I always loved The Legend of King Arthur. Even to this day, when I play medieval games I always play the Knight and give names based off the legend. However when I got older I grew out of it and forgot most of the legend. After watching Fate/Zero I got a renewed interest in the legend so I checked out The Tale of King Arthur And His Noble Knights from my college library and began to familiarize myself with the legend again.
-
Cool, but I'm more of a mythology type of guy. I was asking because I finished Fate/Zero a few days ago.
-
After I watched Fate/Zero I first read The Epic of Gilgamesh. That was literally one of the coolest stories I ever read. I wanna find the book on Diarmuid next.
-
Yeah. I watched that anime, and I fangasmed when Gilgamesh appeared. I have been a fan of general deluge stories for a long time, and The Epic of Gilgamesh is one of my perennial favorites. Though, there is something missing in that tale. Most later tales typically revolve around a hero being clever in order to get our of bad situations, out thinking his opponent. Gilgamesh and Enkidu don't do that at all, they just try to out muscle everything. That's the one thing its lacking, clever heroes who can out think their foes, instead of just running at them mindlessly. That aside though, its a good story.

I personally preferred the historic characters in F/Z over F/SN, The only two figures in F/SN that actually interested me were Arthur and Hercules, and Arthur was in F/Z so the list is even smaller.
-
Id say to check out Fate/Apocrypha, but the author of it really likes gender swapping and traps. While it was ok to have one person be gender swapped in the main continuum there's just to much in Apocrypha. Seriously, the author made jack the ripper, Frankenstein, and Mordred little girls (even though Mordred had previously been shown to be male, but I guess he can get away with it because "muh alternate universe") and Astolfo is a trap. The design choices seriously put me off of it and I can't wait for Nasu to get back into going hands on with Fate again.
-
I remembered looking up the basic storyline for F/A because it had Joann...err-I mean Saber 2.0 in it. But yeah um...what the -blam!-?
-
The author of F/A pretty much took the opportunity to make his fan fiction official. I remember when the servant list was first revealed. That shit looked like it was going to be so badass, then the concept art came out and it was like "What the -blam!- is this shit?". Im seriously hoping that Nasu's involvement in the F/SN remake is a sign of good things to come. If they made an actual full lengthen story out of Fate/Fake that shit would be incredibly interesting.
-
God I can't wait for the new F/SN, I seriously hope they do a much better job with the story.
-
.... Don't tell me you watched DEEN /Stay Night and Unlimited DEEN Works
-
No, my brother did and told me what happens. The most I delved into with F/SN is that I completed the Fate route in the visual novel and just started UBW.
-
So not only were you getting your information from the DEEN adaptation, but you were also getting it second hand. Now that whole thing you said about archer a couple weeks back makes sense.
-
About how Archer is time traveling Shirou?
-
It's more like a dead Shirou from an alternate time line is summoned and is essentially the representation of the worlds forgotten and nameless heroes for the grail war. We don't know what happened in Archers timeline other than there was a grail war that involved him, Rin, and Arturia with Sakura having made an appearance sometime after he becomes an adult. If you're going to call Archer a time traveling Shirou you should call every servant summoned a time traveler too.
