Doesn't High Charity have its own Slipspace drive? (I may have a possible explanation if this is the case)

  • I actually can't say for sure. Even if it does, it would take High Charity over 100 years to reach the Ark if it didn't use the portal.

  • You should take a look at the 30 reply long discussion I had with Admirals. Yes, High Charity possibly has a slipspace drive. But the keyship that powered the place up was detached at the time and the place was running on emergency power.

Never mind, I saw the sub-thread and saw you said pretty much exactly what I was thinking... Dammit...

  • I took everything apart and gave the best reasons I could. End of the line is, this is the current canon statement for how High Charity ended up over there. "Bungie dun Goofed."

  • Here's the problem, as Admirals brought up. Using Covenant slipspace drives would have taken High Charity 100 years to get to Ark. The portal was the only way. And, as brought up by Grey, the Graveminds genetic memory is hella sketchy. They never found the second Ark, or the portal however.

  • But wasn't the second Ark the one where the Precursors/Flood found the Iso-Didact at during the end of Silentium?

  • No because the Gravemind diverted to Earth as Librarian lured him away from pursuing the IsoDidact so he could have time to fire the Halos by sending out a false message about having discovered the Flood cure. Mendicant Bias sped to the Ark instead, but was defeated by Offensive after the rings fired and was subsequently improsoned to await a time where he might atone for his betrayal.

  • Well, Mendicant Bias was sort of implied in that, since they were the one leading the Precursors to them and demanding Offensive Bias's surrender. And yes, I know the Flood were headed to Erde Tyrene for the Librarian's "cure", but (and I've only read Silentium once a couple months back) there was a secondary force attacking the second Ark, before the Iso-Didact gives his famous line and starts the firing sequence.

  • Mendicant never demanded Offensive Bias' surrender, he broke through the Jat-Krula boundary (Maginot Sphere) and started attacking. Offensive then started playing for time by holding Mendicant inside the Sphere for around eight hours, the Halos fired and wiped out Mendicant's army so Offensive outnumbered him six-to-one. The battle of the Greater Ark was before the battle of the Maginot Sphere, they weren't simultaneous events. Omega Halo fired from the Greater Ark to purge Path Kethona of Star Roads, but ended up only delaying them - the Greater Ark and Omega Halo were subsequently shredded apart by the Star Roads. The Lesser Ark, where the IsoDidact went to in order to fire the Halos, was never reached by the Flood.

"'Portal opening,' the metarch announces. 'Didact... I have received a coded message signal from Mendicant Bias. It offers no quarter, expresses full confidence in its successful destruction of this Ark--and asks that I transfer to join it. Allowing me to survive and partner with it." Offensive Bias's surrender, not the Iso-Didact, and you can see that Mendicant Bias knew enough of the Lesser Ark's location to be able to send a message to it.
he broke through the Jat-Krula boundary (Maginot Sphere) and started attacking. Offensive then started playing for time by holding Mendicant inside the Sphere for around eight hours, the Halos fired and wiped out Mendicant's army so Offensive outnumbered him six-to-one.
"The metarch has taken its final fleet back to the Line, running ahead to meet Mendicant Bias and the Gravemind--and a fleet of Flood ships larger than has ever been witnessed. That battle will delay our foes long enough to finish what has already been set into motion." It may be a possibility that I'm reading into this differently, but this part also implies to me that the Flood are preparing to attack the lesser Ark, yet Offensive Bias delays them long enough for the rings to be fired.
I knew this, and wasn't trying to imply that the two events happened at the same time, just that the Flood were preparing an attack on the second Ark. It was an interesting idea to weaponize the star roads by turning them into garrotes, at least the ones that Omega Halo didn't blast a hole through.
