Wormholes seem to be the only possibilty.
There's also the problem of chronology. The fact is that any faster than light drive(even effective ftl) also acts a backwards time travel device.

Oh, cool to see I'm not the only one who figured that out.

It doesn't (wouldnt, since we've never achieved it) act as a backwards time-travel device. If you move faster than the speed of light, time slows for you but the rest of time stays constant, and thus would act as a sort of forward time-travel device.
-
Nope. The closer you are to the speed of light, the slower time is for you. So if you reach the speed of light, time around you would not move, so if you go past the speed of light? You go backwards in time.

Bro, do you even special relativity?
-
Bro, do you even draw me like one of your french girls?
-
Whoa. That would be awesome.

Only problem is, as it appears now a quantum theory of gravity would probably prove all solutions to Einstein's field equations that allow for backwards time travel false. Therefor no effective ftl.
-
Nooooooo. But yeah I don't think time travel will ever happen. Mainly because no one from the future has ever been seen in the past. Unless of course they covered it up extremely well... Conspiracy theory!

It's not so bad. A warp drive would make an excellent reactionless drive at speeds slower than light.
provided that mass that satisfies the needed negative energy density requirement actually exists and we are able to harness it.
