After looking at that more closely, there's also some Tory-bashing, Labour-revering and misspelling on that paper.
Nice to know the People's Republic of St Helen's is getting its facts straight. . .

Don't forget this
The worst-hit area, Knowsley in Merseyside, sees a total loss of £850 per head - £515 per head in welfare cuts and £336 in local government cuts - according to Labour's figures.
Well the Tories are not going to bad mouth themselves are they?
-
Would you accept a Republican source badmouthing Obama?
-
........if they can back it up yea. Both sides twist facts, so the one you get by a "Reputable source" will be from one of them. Our town is a Labour town sure, doesn't mean we are a "Labour is better screw everybody else" town. The tories caused this problem for themselves, not our fault, I am sure if another party came along and could do better we would probably go to them. Keep in mind that we are also the most religious town (Christianity) and most White town in the entire country, so we should really fit in with the Tories, except we are all working class.
The tories caused this problem for themselves, not our fault, I am sure if another party came along and could do better we would probably go to them.
Because politics is easy, right? Austerity is a necessary part of the recovery.

Well thankfully our transport links makes the town great for regional investment but compared to the boom of London in a similar time frame we are no where near.
-
It's a labour strong hold, the Tories closed down our mines and pretty much left us for dead. Also we are in Merseyside one of the worst hit places in the country.....oh and look at the link.
He warned Mrs Thatcher "not to over commit scarce resources to Liverpool". "I fear that Merseyside is going to be much the hardest nut to crack," he said. "We do not want to find ourselves concentrating all the limited cash that may have to be made available into Liverpool and having nothing left for possibly more promising areas such as the West Midlands or, even, the North East.
Merseyside is an amalgamation of 22 former local government districts from the former administrative counties of Lancashire, Cheshire and six autonomous county boroughs centred on Birkenhead, Bootle, Liverpool, Southport, St Helens, and Wallasey. If you want proof that the Tories are hated for a good reason, enjoy.
It's a labour strong hold, the Tories closed down our mines and pretty much left us for dead.
It had to be done.

Is that so?
During the boom years of the British coal industry (with 1913 the peak year of production with 1 million being employed in UK mining industry) the St. Helens division of the Lancashire and Cheshire Miners' Federation (the local miners' union) had the largest membership (10%) of that federation
One of, if not the largest Coal mining town in the entire country was forced to shut down by the tories and guess what?
100 years later, Farrer might be equally surprised to find the town knocking back offers of mining excavation, when in 2009 the Council rejected a planning application for an open cast mine effectively underlining the finality of the decline of coal mining in the area..
They asked us to open a Mine and we told them to shove it. Can't have your cake and eat it comes to mind.
-
The mines weren't profitable enough to be kept open. The loss of jobs was, of course, a travesty, but it was the "least bad" option. Having a syndicalist union like the NUM posed a serious threat to the market and risked inflation, which would've been far worse.

Edited by Paulus magintie: 3/28/2014 4:24:24 PMThen fix the union or at least close some not all of them. The fact that they closed the mines in the area, was debating to leave the area to fend for itself while they focused on the South and then come crawling back to open the mines is just disgusting and playing games with peoples lives. It's common knowledge that the South (London) just left the North to fight for its own survival, I mean come on, I posted a quote about abandoning Liverpool, a major city in the North, Key to the Battle of the Atlantic during the war. They turn their backs on us, so what else are we supposed to do? Like them? They ruined lives, they won't be forgiven for that.
"It would be even more regrettable if some of the brighter ideas for renewing economic activity were to be sown only on relatively stony ground on the banks of the Mersey. "I cannot help feeling that the option of managed decline is one which we should not forget altogether. We must not expend all our limited resources in trying to make water flow uphill."
That's difficult politics, not hardhearted Tory supremacy.
