You can't outright build a PC more powerful than a PS4 but cheaper. It's a long term investment. The more games you buy, the cheaper it becomes. For two reasons:
- Much cheaper games
- No pay to play online
So factor in the cost of online (say $60 AUD a year) building a PC becomes much cheaper in the long term. I mean, consider 6 years of online subscription (say that's a generation length). 6 x $60= $360. For example, the PS4 would be $550 + $360 AUD which is $910. You can build a PC for around $700 AUD which delivers the same performance.
Then you factor in the much cheaper games.
Then you factor in emulation (if you're into that)
Then you factor in all the free games.
Then you factor in all those exclusives and indie titles.
Then you factor in the mods.
Then you factor in the larger (and in my opinion, better) fan base.
Then you factor in the fact that it's a PC. You can do PC things on a PC, you know? It's not just for gaming.
And it depends on how much you want to spend. The more you spend, the more amazing the games look. That's how it works.
But of course, it isn't for everyone.
- Some people have friends on consoles and just want to play with them.
- Some people prefer the exclusives on consoles.
- Some people can't be stuffed learning how to build a PC.
I will probably get attacked now seeing as this forum is flooded with console gamers. So yeah. Let the stoning begin.

Exactly. Consoles are cheaper. If you don't buy a lot of games, it's best to get a PS4.

The PC is cheaper no matter how many games you buy because of the fact that console users have to pay for online. I did the math in the second paragraph. And it just keeps on getting cheaper the more games you buy.

Sure, if you have a thousand dollars in one go, rather than £40 at the end of the year which honestly isn't that much.

700 not 1000. And in the end it's much cheaper. Yeah you need the extra cash at the beginning, an if you don't have it then don't build a PC. But to say it is more expensive is completely wrong.

It's not technically incorrect, it's just vague. But if you don't get PSN+/XBLAGO then it should be okay as long as you don't buy many games for it.

Then you've restricted the amount of games you can buy to some super small number. No shit it's going to be cheaper. On top of that it's a waste of money. I don't see why a one would want that.
