'Oh look a rare animal that is the size of most americans!' BETTER KILL IT LOL *sigh* Edit - Alright, I'm getting fairly tired of this. Yes there are valid reasons to shoot pigs, I've said time and time again that I don't like it but I don't oppose it. After I reply to Kernal, I'm going to ignore any more opinions people share because I'm getting sick of saying the same thing over and over again. One more time - I know there are valid reasons, I don't like them but I don't oppose it. I'm sure you all enjoy killing animals, so have at it.

Oh I do know that, it's just a shame that such a large specimen was killed rather than captured to be studied :/

You realize that if this is true (The Daily Record is a British tabloid so I'm inclined to believe it isn't) it's perfectly reasonable because boars are a non-native invasive species that regularly go around destroying both human agriculture and the native forests right?

Yeah I do, but it's still a shame when it happens. (The Daily Record isn't renowned for it's quality or accuracy)

  • Actually boars are an invasive species in NC and most of the US, and a bit of a menace. The big ones have and continue to kill hikers and hunters. They're also bad for our ecosystem and displace/outcompete native species. They're somewhat of an epidemic in the South. I mean, I'm very anti-hunting, but I'm cool with getting rid of boars.

Yeah I know... it's just typical of Rednecks to shoot it. At least they are using it for food and not just... trophy hunting.

  •
trophy hunting.

sport hunting.
i don't think you understand anything about what you're talking about. all hunters take the animal and harvest it unless it has a visible disease or they cannot locate it. it is poaching for them to do otherwise. this is pretty much the law everywhere.

If they go hunting for the purpose of getting a trophy - antlers or tusks or something like that - I have a problem. If they go hunting with the intent to use what they kill - I don't like it, but I'll tolerate it. If they go hunting for 'fun' - -blam!- em. If they get fun an enjoyment out of killing animals then I have little more to say other than - -blam!- em.

you still don't get it.. they take the meat and eat it. or they donate it to charity or give it to someone else who will eat it, possibly as a gift. all trophy means is they keep part of the skin from the head and have that set over a plastic form.

  • They are still doing it for fun, aka sport, aka trophy hunting. If they got no enjoyment out of it they simply wouldn't do it.

  • I don't think you quite grasp the problem. There are some states where wild pigs are so thick that you cannot safely go into the woods. They destroy crops, forest, grasslands. On top of that they breed like crazy. A sow can have up to like 14 or 15 piglets in a single litter. Multiply that by large herds with 20 or 30 sows. You simply cannot eat all of them. Besides, i've heard wild pig taste like shit. A true case of "you are what you eat" and they eat fucking everything. No, the only solution is to shoot them wholesale. Texas has actually managed to start getting their numbers under control by de-regulating hunting of wild pig. Crazy fuckers have even started offering Helicopter shoots. They load you up in a helicopter, give you an AR shotgun, and you fly around till you locate a herd and then you have at. You do need a Texas hunting permit though for this. Shooting pigs from ground level does not require a permit. Don't really care if you think it's cruel because the shit is working.
Don't really care if you think it's cruel because the shit is working.
Then there is nothing else to say, You don't care for my opinion on it despite me saying over and over again to about 8 people that I don't like it but I don't oppose it.

Wild boar are an invasive species and they're certainly not rare.
