Species die all the time when another drives them to extinction. I understand that we're causing it, but at the same time I have a very Darwinian attitude to it.

It's just basic evolution, we lose a key stone animal, another arrives to take it's place regardless of what we kill.
-
It's not so much that an animal evolves to take its place, rather an animal that can adapt to the environment better.
-
Please don't tell me you're that ignorant of human impact on evolution.
-

How does that change anything? You're saying that no matter what we do, evolution will always maintain ecological security.
-
Because it's true. Dinosaurs collapsed and went Extinct so Mammals rose up and took their place.
-
First of all it's entirely possible that we could render the Earth uninhabitable. Secondly, that is absolutely no excuse for acting with wanton abandon when it comes to the environment.
First of all it's entirely possible that we could render the Earth uninhabitable.
Dude, just and FYI lonepaul also doesn't believe in climate change.
-
Did I say we should? No. I am was just saying something will take the place of the extinct animal, a species is going extinct every day and we don't even know about it.
-
I still don't get what the point is that you're trying to make, to be honest. Are you arguing against conservation? Against anthropogenic climate change and ecological responsibility? Or are you simply stating that evolution is a self-correcting system, without having an agenda behind that notion?
-
That isn't Darwinian. Darwinianism is about the natural preservation of ecological balance by evolutionary means. Our genes aren't capable of accounting for the fact that we use guns to kill chimpanzees merely because they fetch a lot of money on an illegal market.
-
Of course not. But as an example, elephants are changing to the point where they have tiny/no tusks because we hunt for them.
-
Your point? That's just one example of evolution in progress, and it's not happening fast enough. Elephants will be killed for reasons other than their tusks. The destruction of habitat has far more to do with the decline of species as opposed to actively hunting for them. Evolution isn't faster than a bullet.

Edited by Sylveon, God of Moonblast: 3/10/2014 8:52:13 PMThat's too bad for the species that're dying.

You're ignorant of Darwinian ideas if you think that's an acceptable opinion. That's the equivalent of saying the poor shouldn't get equally qualitative healthcare simply because they haven't been able to amass the skills and wealth needed to afford it.
-
Oh look, people are telling me how I should think.

I don't think you understand what a forum is. If you have no desire to engage in a discussion and expand upon your opinion, either because you don't want to or that they are merely unsubstantiated, then this conversation is over. Have a good day.
