Probably? It's not debatable, truth of the matter is we are currently IN another mass extinction right now.
Thought this was common knowledge.
Are the scientists who did that study really that naïve? It's a well talked over fact right now. Where are they during the debates and the conventions? The meetings and lessons? The research and data gathering?

I'm trying to avoid accusations of fear mongering and bias. People still dispute anthropogenic climate change for Christ's sake.

I didn't mean to make your mongering accusations. I literally thought it was common knowledge that right now enough species are dying out every day to count as a mass extinction. I had no idea people did not know.

You didn't, I'm just saying I'm trying to avoid it from less. . . reasonable members. But no, it isn't common knowledge. I'm interest in things like this, and I knew we were in a bad shape, but I never knew it could qualify for mass extinction.

And I was little I went to a museum that had a counter of all the number of species that had died out since 0001 that morning and the counter reset every morning. Of course it went by statistics and not hundred percent document cases but I was always afraid that I'd step on a bug on my way to look at the counter and it go up by one. /child fears
