Obviously, but guns are much more efficient at claiming lives. *braces for ad hominem attacks from the pro gun nuts*

  • And yet, war and murder has been around longer than them, the issue isnt guns, but people.

  • I'm aware, but we've become a lot better at war and murdering ever since guns were invented, and we'll probably still keep getting better for as long as we cling to our barbaric tribal mentality.

What do you mean by barbaric tribal mentality? Things like race, other ideas which segregate people? Violence, war...isn't it something to take a look at the great damage we (humanity) can inflict? Kinda catches you with awe? Such terrible things happen in battle. Is there a way we can exist without violence? Can you imagine a world without violence? Kinda...unrealistic, or perhaps difficult, to imagine such a place. Violence has been a part of life, something needed to live, eh? What do you think.

I don't think it's something to be terribly proud of to be honest. Humans taking other human lives, what is admirable about that? I do think we're an immature species still to learn a lot, but I'm not a cynical pessimist either. I believe we can outgrow our violent nature given the adequate amount of time. But I guess I'm just silly like that huh?

Ye I agree it isn't something to be terribly proud of. Imagine if we focused on other aspects of technology as powerfully as we focus on militaristic stuff! Would it be wise to outgrow a violent nature though? Perhaps control it better. Once upon a time violence was needed to survive, and I suspect it will inevitably be needed again. I'm thinking if we encounter a horribly violent being or alien race in our future. Suppose in the meantime we've largely ignored militaristic violence and weapon tech due to a dominant focus on peaceful existences...we could be forced to extinction, or in danger of it anyway. It could be important to advance violent technology as well as peaceful, nurturing technology. Perhaps we (humanity) will learn from our petty violent pasts and cease internal wars to favor equality and all the good virtues as well. Ya feel me.

  • I have this same mentality, it's part of our nature. Besides the only way to remove our warlike nature, is to remove emotion all together.
