I'm really glad Bungie have left behind that old idea, which many people (especially demonstrated by the "343 ruined Halo by changing this and that!" camp) still cling to that for PVP games to be balanced everyone must be exactly the same.
I do desire a game that's balanced...
But I don't agree that cannot occur in game were I can go into a game equipped the way I want to play the way I want to all the time, not just if I happen to be able to get to the required kind of weapon first - which, sorry to those who believe it is but it isn't, is not dependant on how good I am it's about where I spawned and such.
If I have to go looking for ammo for my weapon then I still have to know the map.
If I have bad thumb skills I'm still gonna lose matches to better players.
...But I actually think ahead about my tactics when I've got control over my gear in a way I can't if I'm playing something like 'classic Halo'.
And if things keep changing then people won't, on balanced, settle on any one or two 'best' loadouts like you see in games that seek to balance pickable weapons against each other for all time.

That was my favorite part of original Halo. The power weapons and knowing how to get there the fastest. You won those games because you knew the map and knew how to manuever. Plus it added a bit of king of the hill into every game. It added strategy to a first person shooter to turn it into more than a run and gun.

More down to luck than skill in those cases.
-
Luck would imply a random chance of winning vs losing which would mean a 50-50 win - lose rate. How then, can you explain my winning a good deal more than 50% of the time?
-
It's luck cause you didn't know where you'd spawn or if that you'd get to the weapon you needed and such.
-
I know where I spawn. It's nearly identical every in every match. Based on respawns and which weapons you know have been taken, you can pick different places on the map to go to depending on which power weapon is going to be respawning.
-
You rely on knowing where you are and being the first to what you want - Luck.
-
Regardless of where you spawn or your arrival time to a location, there is always an alternative. Picking the right option is strategy.
-
Nope. You don't have control over your starting weapons and must rely on luck to get what you want. A game where you can decide what weapons to take in from the get go is always going to be more accommodating of strategy and tactics.
-
Everyone starts out on an equal playing field with identical weapons and abilities. Picking the best weapon or location to go to isn't luck. If you just randomly pick one without any decision makjng process, then sure, but that also means you are going to get your ass handed to you. Probably why your sorry ass can't handle that game type.

Yes okay knowing where the 'best' weapon is located isn't luck, it's map knowledge, but being the one who actually gets that weapon compared to anyone else playing that game with the same knowledge. Also the second you pick up one of those weapons the "everyone is equal" balance is gone. Hence it's much fairer to allow everyone to pick their preferred weapons and abilities before they enter the game. Also was the insult necessary?

Edited by Soleblighter: 5/17/2014 5:47:24 AMNot really. I had just finished a 14 hour shift and was considerably irratable. I apologize. For any original spawn, there is a power weapon that the player can get to at the same time as an opponent. The point is that there is a way to win every scenario regardless of where you spawn or who has a power weapon. Picking the right choice is strategy. A lot like a really fast paced game of chess. I'm not saying that games with loadouts aren't as strategic. The type of strategy is different. In original Halo you have to think on the fly to win. Be able to adapt by hopping in a vehicle or grabbing whatever is close by. How you play depends on what weapon you grab and what weapon you grab depends on what is accessable. Each weapon has a pro and con. In loadout games, a lot more of it is planning how you're going to each game by setting up loadouts.

Good point.

Edited by FairlySplendid: 3/3/2014 2:52:45 PMYou're right that Destiny's ammo system plays a large part in balancing this game. It requires you to still understand and utilize map control. More importantly, it's the great equalizer. Doesn't matter how bad-ass your gun is if you don't have ammo.

Most definitely. "I can't just sit over in a corner with my favourite weapon."
