I don't really get it to be honest.. Why make it so complicated?
Are you smart for solving something in a more complicated way, or when you solve it the easiest way? Because to me it seems everyone chooses for the latter.. :p
That's why math is so hard to me. It's so complicated sometimes and it just doesn't make sense to me anymore. Why can't it be simple and easy?

He slow so it makes sense to him. We'll let him do it for now because it works for him and he'll just be confused if we try to change it.
