Without some keystone species, entire ecosystems could fall apart :c Like the ordeal with sea otters off of the west coast of the US. Fewer sea otters > More kelp > overgrowth of kelp > taking nutrients from other species > other species in turn go extinct > etc.

  • I know about the food web, but what about pandas? Those things are so close to extinction >->

  • Ecosystems are way too fragile in all honesty, it's remarkable that life has progressed so far I think. And concerning that, Pandas die > bamboo overpopulation > fewer nutrients for other plants > fewer resources for other animals > etc. Basically any organism's extinction can upset everything in an ecosystem, I'm not sure I'm getting exactly where you're coming from with this one...

  • Dadgummit nature Why must you be so complex? I'm mainly against human interference but keystone species can make or break entire regions :s
