The biggest problem with the internet is how volatile it is, people fail to understand that they're talking, or more than often, insulting is an actual person who exists and has feelings just like the rest of us.

I think they understand it. Those people out there who dedicate their time on the internet 100% to talking shit probably have their own issues whether they're aware of it or not. Those that seem to be constantly bitter and nihilistic.
-
This isn't something that'll ever change, though. So the only option available is to run in with thick skin.
-
Even thick skins can only take so much abuse, imagine waking up everyday to a multitude of people disparaging you and saying incredibly degrading and nasty comments to you, I don't care who you are, that will eat at you.
-
Which is why i said it's the only option. Don't remember saying it'll protect someone from everything. I'd rather go in with thick skin than go in as vulnerable and sensitive. All i'm saying is yes, no matter what, the abuse will hurt, but being able to disregard as much as you can (no matter how little) is better than nothing. Of course it will eat me. I'll hate it. It's only natural. But the only option is thick skin. Block out as little as you can. A lot will hurt, sure, but what option is there?
-
I don't know, I just felt like you were saying it's TB's, or anyone in his positions, fault when they have a small lapse in their strong facade. I understand that thick skin is the only option, but you can't fault a man for succumbing to the pressure every now and then.
-
I don't know where you got that from... My post was quite simple. All i said was that nothing is going to change. In the end, the thicker the skin, the more shit you can withstand. But of course, there is a limit and i understand that. My limit would actually be very small, believe it or not. I would've done what TB did way before he did it, as long as it doesn't impact my popularity.
you can't fault a man for succumbing to the pressure every now and then.
Yeah you've misinterpreted my post... :/ Just never mind...
-
I'm sorry about the misunderstanding, I'm just used to this hive-mind mentality of a lot of people who seem to think "Just get a thick skin" is the solution to this problem because they don't understand it. That last post I made wasn't necessarily directed towards you either though, again sorry for the misinterpretations.
-
Thick skin does not last. It builds and builds, people have their breaking points and TB seems to have reached his. It is easy for somebody to say "you need thick skin" when they are not the one under fire. It is totally different when you're in it.
-
Like i said, it's the only option. There is no better one. People aren't going to magically stop being jerks on the internet. And besides, you don't intend to become popular without the expectation of a large amount of negativity. That's quite a silly thing to do.
-
Of course not. Its expected, just people have their limits and it can only really be understood when its you having the problem. Its totally different looking in.
-
I never said otherwise, so i don't see your point. Of course it can only be understood when its you having the problem. I simply said the only option people have on the internet is to just ignore as much as they can. That's a fact. Yes, it the limit depends on the person, i'm agreeing with that. But there's no other option than to try and run around with thick skin and ignore as much as they can.
-
Not saying I understand on their level, but I can say that it is really disheartening. You can have 99.99% good reception, but that .01 tends to linger and stand out more. It really eats at you, they can be the dumbest, most illogical attention seeking posts you have ever seen. But it gets to you at some point.

However; they are (of their own accord) placing their personal thoughts/opinions into a publicly accessed medium and leaving those thoughts/opinions open to public comment. They should accept that there will be heinously negative comments along with the glowing praise. If that can't be accepted, then get out of the business of posting your private/professional thoughts/comments/opinions on public sites such as YouTube. If he can't handle the negative backlash, then only he is to blame as he put his shit out there to be commented on. "Keyboard courage" and the lack of consequences on the internet is nothing even close to being a new problem. While I don't condone it, there's nothing (short of Marxist censorship) that will get rid of it, and I am not going to be OK with any type of censorship.
