With the recent news that Titanfall won't have these playlists, there's still a strong market out there for a new next generation competitive shooter to whip up a storm. Destiny should hopefully pick up from where Halo left off.
Bungie made several online multiplayer games so they know that people tend to be jerks online.
Hyper-competition + Anonymity + Loss Anxiety = Negative emotional pressure
They call it 'sloping the floor' players will want to collaborate and be rewarded for positive interactions in the game. They've also built tools so that jerks won't ruin anyone's experience. We see some of that built into this website. You'll also want to play a ton in public events and general co-op before entering competitive arena which automatically makes it the best new IP of the year.

Yet the most competitive Halo game with the best iteration of Ranked playlists, Halo 2, is widely considered to have the best multiplayer. Little Kids shouldn't define your game, the developer should make the choice regardless of player interaction.
