engineering graphics class,
What does this entail? Rendering, modelling, CAD etc?
What he wants to do is get two older GPUs for the price of a current mid-tier and run them dual to get better performance.
Is this a good idea?
I told him he might want to consider just getting a single, medium level new card and then later make it a dual setup.
Cheers!
What GPU(s) has he looked at?

Edited by Progo: 2/1/2014 8:51:52 PMIt's a GTX 580 that he wants to run dual.

I'll reply in a bit when I'm on a laptop. I'm on the mobile app at the moment.
-
I'd need a second opinion, but I believe two 580s would be similar to two 660s, which in turn would be a bit better than a 770. However, it's probably best to get a single card. Less power consumption, and non of the problems associated with SLI.
-
Wouldn't it be cheaper for a single 770 anyway?
-
I believe that would be true.
-
770 it is then. Only slightly less power. Cheaper. Less power consumption. No comic rations because of SLI.

Before you commit, check my info lol. I'm not 100% sure about my choice.

Before I commit? Lolwat?

I was assuming you were making a list for the OP.
-
-
You're not tempted to make a list? *gasp*
-
I'd compile some parts if I was on the laptop.
-
Why not on your phone? That's what I do.
-
Because I don't like it. And because my iPod is buggy as shit.

*cough* Android is better *cough*

At least you see the light!

I wouldn't own anything Apple if I didn't get this thing as a present.
-
Yeah. Thank goodness!
-
It's now just an expensive alarm clock.
-
Maybe sell and get a large profit?
-
Meh... That would require effort on my part.

-
Okay, thanks!

Engineering graphics means some heavy CAD work, not any rendering (so honestly he doesn't need much power, it's just that his current PC is ANCIENT and incapable of anything). All I know is that they were some two year old Nvidias recommended by Toms Hardware.
