I'm not talking about injuries from actually playing airsoft. I am talking about you being shot if the wrong person at the wrong time sees you with it. Like the kid with the airsoft AK in california. He had it in his hands ( not pointed at anyone ) the police told him to drop it. He didn't drop it. He began to turn around to face them ( still not pointing the gun at any of them, just holding it ) And the police neutralized him. Rightfully so as well. They had no way of knowing if it was real. The kid took off the orange tip ( bad decision even though it wouldn't have helped him ) And now he is dead.

Nope. He pointed the gun at police.

Incorrect. I have read the police report.

Sauce?

now how old was this kid?

The orange tip would have definitely helped him.

Edited by Funkbrotha10: 1/30/2014 2:07:38 AMNo it would not have. Anyone can paint an orange tip on a real gun. If you point an airsoft gun with an orange tip at the police ( or anyone else with a gun ) they will shoot you. And they should. Criminals in the past have painted real guns with orange tips. Police and DPSST certified armed security officers such as myself are trained to ignore things like orange tips and bright colors and to treat it as if you know its a real gun.

And it's the kid's fault for not having common sense.

Exactly. That's what I am saying. For whatever reason that kid didn't have the judgement to drop the weapon when ordered to by the police. Instead he turned around to face them. In his mind he was probably just turning around to explain to them that it's just an airsoft gun. But they dropped him. Rightfully so to. They had no way of knowing if it was an airsoft gun, or a real gun with an orange tip painted on.
