I'd love to try a home brewed beer or mead. It sounds good. :P

It's really easy; I'd suggest trying it. The wine I make ferments in a 5 gallon bucket, the ingredients cost about $15 for three gallons (fruit, sugar, yeast). You make it and mix it once a day for a week abouts and then just let it sit! Pretty good stuff when it's done.

Is it better if you let it ferment longer?

Not really. Yeast quite literally shit themselves to death. They digest sugars into alcohol. Once the concentration of alcohol gets high enough, typically 5-15% depending on the type of yeast, they die off. If you let it sit [i]too[/i] long, it can turn into vinegar or make other less desirable products.

Lol I'm 17(18 in a month and a few days) I can't even legally drink yet. Next year I will be able to though. :)
