I'd rather just have a mushroom. The whole thing about getting circumcised as an infant is that you don't remember it. Now grandpas will get to tell their grandkids their circumcision story.

  • Again, the false and downright moronic assumption that banning non-therapeutic infant circumcision will somehow result in the necessity of having it done at a later age. Newsflash!
Circumcision is completely unnecessary in almost all cases and millions of men live their entire life without being circumcised.
It still amazes me how uneducated and ignorant the general population of Bnet is about this issue.

You could've just reminded me that circumcision isn't necessary for one's health (something I forgot) instead of being a complete asshole about it. And sorry that I'm uneducated about something as frivolous as circumcision while there are wars, revolutions, people spying on us, and real life to worry about.

  •
You could've just reminded me that circumcision isn't necessary for one's health
Apologies, I thought that was common knowledge. Realizing that it's not and that in some parts of the world people are actually taught to believe that it is, is pretty saddening and reminds me of scaring children by making them believe masturbation makes you go blind and get hairy palms. Are you from the US? Either way, sorry for being a "complete asshole". I did not mean to offend. I was under the impression that such opinions are either willful ignorance or simply delusions. It's new to me that there are people who have actually not been taught anything about what seems to be pretty basic sex ed stuff to me. I'll keep that in mind next time I see someone post something like that and I'll try to come off not as strong.

  • Apology accepted. I'm from the Southeast U.S. and here we're generally taught that being uncircumcised is unclean. It comes from being in the Bible Belt I suppose.

  • I feel like it's safe to say that the little confidence I have left in the US has taken a lot of blows lately. Dammit America.

  •
Circumcision has other harmful effects. Anand and Hickey write that
the persistence of specific behavioral changes after circumcision in neonates implies the presence of memory. In the short term, these behavioral changes may disrupt the adaptation of newborn infants to their postnatal environment, the development of parent-infant bonding, and feeding schedules.18
Psychiatrist Rima Laibow agrees that circumcision significantly impairs mother-infant bonding.19 Other researchers conclude that circumcision has "behavioral and psychological consequences."20 The American Academy of Pediatrics Task Force on Circumcision notes increased irritability, varying sleep patterns, and changes in infant-maternal interaction after circumcision.21 Canadian investigators report that during vaccinations at age four to six months, circumcised boys had increased behavioral pain response and cried for significantly longer periods than did uncircumcised boys, a possible indication of post-traumatic stress disorder.22 Other long-term effects have not been studied.
http://www.jewishcircumcision.org/spectator.htm
