I am certainly no fan of Republican economic policies, but based on a simple understanding of statistics, this is not a good argument against them. If you aren't running a randomized experiment or case-control studies, cause and effect between explanatory (Republican president) variables and outcome (frequency of recessions) variables is bogus.
