These are world renowned voice actors. Nothing wrong with getting people at the top of their game to help create a great atmosphere.
Bungie is doing the same with Destiny. Are they wasting money as well?

The difference is that Bungie actually seems to be competent in building good games. I'm not sure I can say the same thing about zenimax online, unfortunately. -
Zenimax is unproven. But does that make the hiring of good voice actors a bad one? A game could be bad but the voice acting amazing.

Yes it's good to have great voice actors, but... SWTOR also had amazing voice acting and it still flopped. Why? Because the game wasn't good enough. There were missing features on day one, the engine wasn't properly optimized, basically it was a technical mess with long loading screens, etc. It flopped because they decided to invest a ton of money into voice acting instead of taking that money and hiring proper developers to improve the design of the game and that's the reason I think it's a mistake for TES to be doing the same stuff. But to be honest, I still haven't experienced TESO, but I've seen leaks and heard opinions of people who actually played it and it's not looking good... even more when this game will have a monthly fee to play. Bungie is also hiring renown actors like Peter Dinklage for instance, but I have much more confidence in Bungie to produce a good game. Still, the risk isl huge if Destiny isn't good enough. -
Storytelling by use of good voice acting is becoming a bigger part of video games. But I feel there might be a misconception on how much money hiring a voice actor costs in the large scheme of things. Most, are not paid much for what they do and it's an incredibly demanding job. Saying the same line over and over and over, till it's perfect. TESO will probably get poorer gameplay ratings but be known for amazing voice acting. And the developers will take notice of that and bring what they learned from the community and bring it to more games.
A game could be bad but the voice acting amazing.
In which case hiring the voice actors would be a waste of money.
-
The whole project would be a waste of money. It won't rise or fall based on the small percentage they budgeted for voice actors.
-
Key Word in the title: Still. Which implies that I think they were wasting their money beforehand, and will continue to waste money afterwards. Anyway, all still cash should be going towards the next proper TES game instead of this lobotomised one.
-
I was merely questioning your opinion and the evidence you used for the basis of your opinion, which was the hiring of good voice actors. My first and only TES game was Skyrim, so I am obviously not up on the lore. So I cannot argue from a knowledgable standpoint on that, nor will I try.

Edited by Ukimoi: 1/23/2014 7:54:44 PMWhile I see some of your point but aren't the two situations different? Bungie is making a new IP while keeping it a sci-fi shooter meanwhile Zenimax is taking a game that has always been single player and making it an MMO(destroying the lore to from what I heard) not to mention the subscription fee which is already turning people off to the point they think the game will utterly fail.
-
You made some good points, but I fail to see what your point has to do with hiring accomplished voice actors?
-
Edited by Ukimoi: 1/23/2014 8:04:41 PMI'm just pointing out that the situation between the two are different, personally I think hiring the voice actors is a good move if they see the game succeeding if not it will be a waste of money.
Watched the recent video they uploaded and gameplay looks way better than reveal so I might pick it up.
-
The whole project is a waste if it doesn't succeed, not just the hiring of good voice actors.
-
Exactly...
Bungie is doing the same with Destiny. Are they wasting money as well?
Depends. Are they getting top-class Actors to voice minor roles for a shitty MMO (Which seems like it's going to be a huge flop) where the money (and Actors, for that matter) could go straight to the next real TES (Or Fallout, for that matter) game.
-
Well I think the MMO was a reaction to Skyrim. Many people loved it and wished they could play it with friends. Thus, TESO.
-
There has been the cries of "I WANT TO PLAY TES WITH FRIENDS" from parts of the internet since the Oblivion days (Despite that undermining what TES is all about but whatever). But this is the complete wrong way to go about it. Aside from the name, it's almost nothing like TES.
-
Again, TESO being a flop is your opinion.
-
No shit. Of course it's my opinion

Glad we agree.

It's SWTOR all over again.
