They all died except for The Marty Army which always sleeps. I have a member queue of around 70 people in Owners of the Katana but I am letting you all rot until we draw closer to Destiny or we get a group update that will encourage people to really participate. Still the 10th largest group on the site and it'll still be kicking!

OTK has a membership over 3200, and has for years, but there were only 12 active people for the last 2 1/2 years, and why I left. No reason to be in something that is going nowhere. IT was a Halo 3 thing, time to reinvent.

  • Something I plan on doing before I open the floodgates.

  • So, wait. You're telling us the Private Groups are dead, but you won't let people join them?

It is folly. People join and do not participate since privae groups have had little meaning lately. I only started holding people the last few months. I gave Bnext the better part of the year. OTK is six now, and I am taking the steps to make it seven.

privae groups have had little meaning lately
Why?
Well here's the way I've looked at it. We have public and private posts, right? If you make posts in the group public, then there's no real point to joining the group. Why would you do that when you can experience the full amount of content without bothering- and even if not all your content is public... the people in the public don't know that, so why would they investigate further? On the flip side, if you make everything private... why would anyone have wanted to join when you could only have 10 groups? People needed to save that spot for groups they KNEW were good and worth their time because, for many of us veterans, joining a new group meant leaving an old one. And even for those newer, they are still bogged down by the limitation- and make no mistake, back on Bnet.Old, before the Darkness, I was absolutely active in well over 10 groups daily. This is a complaint, however, that you guys have pretty much done away with by raising the group limit. With public posts the problem remains (but since you don't have to make posts public and the downside to making them private is gone, it really doesn't matter anymore), but now with private content people can feel free to try new things. So I am definitely thankful for today's updates. Is 50 too much? Well... maybe, haha. But I'm not complaining about that!

If you let all 70 of those people in and only 2 or 3 actively participated, it would be worth it, IMO. If you let them all in, some might participate, if you don't, none can.

  • You're right. 2 or 3 of the 70 would be good. Still, right now my line of thinking is somewhat like this... OTK was a group about the Halo 3 Katana, a collectible that was very coveted at the time. Halo 3's era ended and with Reach things died down, and with Bnext... well, nail in the coffin. OTK really had- has- nothing to differentiate it from the dozens of other very large general discussion groups. So keeping true to our heritage, I plan on giving us a little thing to keep the group unique again which will encourage active membership. By doing that and opening the floodgates again (to those that meet the criteria of course- that hasn't changed! All 3300 people have been individually looked at and accepted and every one meets it!) I'm hoping to give the group some lasting power that it hasn't had in a few years- to make it worth coming to. That really no group has had in a few years. And by giving the members this common trait or activity or interest, the group will again become one of the most active and popular groups. It's not about the number of people- the high number is cool, sure, but that isn't the point. The point is that I'd like to keep as many of them active as I can, definitely! OTK has a very deep history with its own squabbles and shining moments, drama and things to be proud of. And I want the Destiny Community to write the next chapter in that history!
Can I come in?
When the time is right, the gates will reopen. With a group limit of 50 instead of 10 now, I expect the line to grow. We approach 80 waiting for this moment.
