Falmer are derivative species of Mer, like Bretons, and thus are not considered Mer in the strictest sense. So I'd say change it to Snow Elves as they are what the Falmer were before the Man arrived in Skyrim

They were called falmer before they became monsters. "Fal mer" literally translates to "Snow elf".
-
Well from playing Dawngaurd and reading online, surviving Snow Elves don't like being called Falmer
-
There are only two known survivors and they never said anything about not being called falmer. Falmer is what they would say in their own language anyway.
-
Amongst the few remaining Snow Elf survivors, they prefer the name Snow Elf over their original name of Falmer, as that name tends to refer to their now degenerated brethren, which after the Dwemer betrayed the Snow Elves and enslaved them, they call "The Betrayed".
Snow Elves = Falmer

Falmer translates to Snow Elf. Nice try.
-
Except when using the word Falmer, inhabitants of Tamriel generally think of the the ugly mutated kind and many surviving Snow Elves don't want to associated with that
-
It doesn't matter what they want to be called. Falmer is the name of the Snow Elves.
