Why exactly are the conservatives generally anti science? Anti evolution and anti climate change seem to be the big ones.

  • Liberals are just as anti-science.

  • Not to the same extent. Liberal activists do tend to have irrational fear of genetically modified organisms, but this stems more from anti-corporation beliefs than a fundamental distrust in the scientific method. On the other hand, many far right wing activists distrust science to the point where they believe an ancient text written by people who thought the sun orbits the earth has more credibility than the modern scientific method.

  • Because science has to do with reality, and reality has a well-known liberal bias.

  • There's really 2 major reasons: Religion: The reason for this is pretty obvious. If you're a fundamentalist who interprets the Bible literally in every instance, you're clearly not going to believe in things that contradict it. Ties with Big Business: Because of the Conservative/Republican tendency to cut taxes, deregulate, and fight for the rights of industry in general, big business is generally on the side of the Republicans. Where's the link to Global Warming/Climate Change? Fighting Global Warming requires a lot of regulation on business-- regulation that would cut their profits. Industries pay Republican politicians a lot of money to disparage global warming and other things that get in their way.

I don't get why some christian conservatives are anti-climate change. Nothing in the Bible contradicts climate change.

  • Conservatives/Republicans tend to support tax cuts, deregulation, and the fight for the rights of industry in general, which means big business is generally on their side. • God controls the planet so he would never do anything to harm us and science is a lie remember?

Well I think a lot of them are Christian and science tends to conflict with that. It seems ridiculous to me though, considering if you were as outspoken against either of those in the British government you'd be laughed to a resignation within weeks.

  • Let's not have a huge discussion, but I am a Christian and I believe that science reveals God's amazing power and majesty. I believe that religion and science go hand in hand.

  • I'm not saying that you can't believe in both, just that a lot of these conservatives (especially the older ones) tend to see science as something that is in conflict with their beliefs and that's why they are so against it.
