This idea that unfettered capitalism trumps unfettered socialism or vice versa is such a ridiculous idea. The truth is that any economic system must be balanced. The US economy is capitalism with many socialist elements. These elements, such as government regulations and a social safety net, ensure the protection of the people when it is not in corporations interests to ensure those protections. Capitalism undoubtedly fuels innovation and economic growth, but unfettered capitalism is just as flawed as pure socialism.

The US is not socialist at all, socialism is not government regulation or control, it's worker ownership of the means of production. Capitalism doesn't fuel innovation, innovation is independent of economic systems. The only thing capitalism innovates is new ways to concentrate wealth.
