Doubtful. - Diehard Halo fans will be slow to embrace Destiny's heavy RPG and fantasy elements and will go back to playing Halo 3 lan-parties till their dying days. semi-joking ;) - A new community of players will thrive in Destiny and the game will foster new gamers that embrace Destiny mechanics. New faces, new "pros", new heroes. - In the end you'll have a new Bungie community made up of old "vets" that adapt to the changes alongside new competitive players "born" in Destiny. - The end result will be a good mix of both. Sort of a FPS melting pot of gamers. Anyone who honestly thinks the entire Halo community will simply copy/paste into Destiny is fooling themselves. There will be earlier adopters, sure. But there will also be those who refuse to step away from Halo... both literally and ideologically. Which is fine. It gives everyone the opportunity to find a "home" in Destiny.

  • Nah competitive players can adapt to any form of game. Because they enjoy learning curve and are the 1% it will be no problem.

The point I'm making is not whether a competitive Halo player can learn how to play Destiny. Of course they can. I'm poising the question, will a diehard Halo fan be willing to embrace Destiny... or will he be too hung up on the differences and initially be slow to jump on board? I think it will be the latter. Leaving the opportunity for new faces to make their mark. Destiny will not be a top-tier transplant from Halo.

  • I doubt it. Most Halo fans will br Bungie fans. And considering Halo was thown into the fire Im sure they will buy the game.

Buying the game and embracing the game are two different things. I'm not saying that Destiny will be bad or bad for competitive players. Only that I've witnessed the Halo competitive community's reaction to mechanics different from the Halo norm.

  • good reply. i'd add that if destiny delivers there's likely to be many hardcore players from other shooters that will make the move and make destiny their home. i say this because almost everyone i talk to is tired of their fps of choice namely cod/bf/kz. heck me and my whole clan are ready to make the jump from kz and i know more from that game that are too. like guys that have destiny already pre-ordered.

Which is really cool. I'm only making the point that Destiny isn't going to be Halo 3 all over again. Same faces, same names, same context. Destiny is a great opportunity for new faces to make their mark and for players that missed the Halo-boat to stand alongside halo vets as equals. Destiny won't be a straightforward copy/paste communities type of situation.
