He was an influential prophet of Christianity, but had no magical powers as far as I'm aware.
-
What?
-
i cut myself on that edge
-
Pretty much everyone believes he existed... Now if he was the messiah, or a profit or just an influential figure is up to debate, but denying his existence is ridiculous.
-
Pretty much everyone believes he existed
Pretty much everyone used to believe in god as well. They got smarter.
-
I'm not trying to bait you mate. He DID exist... There are multiple mentions of him in many many ancient text, not just the bible.
-
There are multiple mentions of a lot of things in ancient text.
-
Yes... But when it is mentioned so frequently, by so many different authors, with so many similarities, it is usually true. You do know that it is generally agreed upon by atheist and christians that christ at least EXISTED at some point right? Why do you think nearly every major religion mentions him... He was obviously a very influential part of history.
-
Yes he is a very influential part of history, christians made him so. Doesn't mean this guy was actually anything special.
-
So you do admit that he existed though correct?
-
-
Actually, even in an atheistic context, the Historical Jesus was fairly important due to his (then) profane moral philosophies that favored the poor and other disenfranchised instead of the rich and powerful. "Slave morality" and "Master morality" as Nietzsche would call it... Christians and Christianity just made it prolific and widespread.
-
Jesus is generally accepted by academics to have been a real person.
-
They don't sound very academic.
-
Apart from the fact that the evidence points to him existing? Oh yeah, not academic to draw the corresponding conclusion! Dumb shit.
-
Lol. How old are you? You come across as no older than 16.
-
Holy shit hahah this guy is very smart.
-
I am 16. Also
Most modern scholars of antiquity agree that Jesus existed,[1][2][3] but scholars differ on the historicity of specific episodes described in the Biblical accounts of Jesus,[4] and the only two events subject to "almost universal assent" are that Jesus was baptized by John the Baptist and was crucified by the order of the Roman Prefect Pontius Pilate.
Established historicity =/= Divinity. He existed all right, he just wasn't God.
-
Wtf? You're 16 and you make all these retarded ass political threads?
-
Well, nearly 17.
:3
In all seriousness though, what does my age have to do with it? If I have an interest in something, there is nothing wrong with indulging it. I think it's absolutely vital that everybody, of all ages encompassing rational though, is educated about, and interested in, politics and economics.
-
I don't think anyone ever claimed that Jesus was God.
-
The bible does, and most supporters of it claim the bible is historical.
-
Huh, I always thought they said he was his Son.
-
The Bible never once says that he's God.
-
That's the whole point of Jesus's divinity. Y'know, the Holy Trinity - The Father, The Son and The Holy Ghost.
