Out of interest, have any sources said if anywhere such as Europe, South America or Asia been attacked by the Covenant?
Wait. Just remembered that Rio was attacked as seen in SO.

Because they didn't know Earth had humans. They thought it was a desolate world with the Ark and when they found out, also losing in the process, they fled to co-ordinates they found on a human colony. The co-ords led them to Delta Halo and the rest of the Covenant armada followed to High Charity, save for the few remaining on Earth. The Civil War pretty much saved Earth after that.

Edited by BaconShelf: 12/24/2013 9:26:38 PMHowever, Truth did know of Earth, and was planning an assault with over 500 ships, destroyed in First Strike. When Regret's Carrier (And only his carrier) bugged out, Truth's remaining Brute fleets arrived to back up the Elites. The assassination of Regret was convenient for Truth as an excuse to order genocide. Anyway, my point is, the main invasion by the Jiralhanae was known about by Truth and he knew full well that Sol was Humanities home system, so having a larger fleet than Regret's and foreknowledge would have allowed him to invade more places simultaneously. Other than that, Truth's fleet basically finished the job that Regret started and hammered the Home Fleet. Remember, a UNSC fleet had to outnumber Covenant 3-1 to have any chance of winning, and would generally lose about 2/3rds in the process. Having already battled Regret, Truth would have had little effort in smashing Earth without the Forerunner Dreadnaught. If the Sangheili had refused to help the Humans, the civil war would have made little difference into Humanities extinction and the firing of the array.

Right, I completely forgot about that. Haven't read that book in awhile. Plots were more interesting in those days
Plots were more interesting in those days
They still are, you just seem to not be looking hard enough, just don't care.

If i remember right chicago got hit; the invasion of earth is rather weird. It appears that the covenant were attacking the entire planet but at the same time they weren't. Like reach, they seemed to focus on military targets while pursuing their own personal goals. Those examples (such as antarctic and ocean drilling) are brought up within GoO.
-
Hmm. I know that North America and Antarctica were hit, but sort of wonder why there hasn't been much said in the way of Britain, Europe and Asia.
-
Because those areas weren't important to the covenant's search parties. Originally The ark was "The Portal" and the covenant were looking for something to activate it to get inside. This was changed with "Uprising" in which a key was faked and that very key lead to a city (chicago if i remember right) being attacked.
-
Yeah. It seems like they would go for the full thing, though. If nothing else, to take down the ODP generators.
-
They didn't even do that which makes no sense either. The "Battle of Earth" has to be one of the dumbest and anticlimactic events in the haloverse. A full month if not Two of fighting and there were still dozens of ODP's up, covenant forces were still fighting in space (even though they could jump to the planet), and these "other targets of interest" were never elaborated on. I hope 343I goes back and retcons that entire game if not severe parts of it.
-
I mean, they had a freakin' Dreadnaught! What else do you need to take down an enemy you've already smashed?!
-
which is another oddity *sigh* as at the end of halo 2 it is clearly going to earth yet in the uprising comics it is in orbit above mars; where it stayed, assumingly until the events of halo 3. Like you said that is dumb seeing as the Sangheili Weren't even able to destroy if damage the ship back in the day. So why was truth wasting his ever limiting forces when he could have drove right through every ODP in orbit? He didn't believe in the dogma per say so causing the ship damage (if any could be done) wouldn't have bothered him. Any damage done wouldn't have been enough to cripple the ship to the point where it couldn't have been used either. So again, It makes no effing sense.
-
If driving through the roof of HC and probably being fired upon lots around Installation 05 by plasma weapons, I doubt ODP's would scratch it. Remember that the Didact's ship would have incinerated every ship in its path while taking basically no hits if Chief didn't nuke it. If Truth's ship was made of similar stuff and used similar weapons such as the particle cannons, that could have solo's the entire Home Fleet by itself!
-
If you play Midnight with subtitles on you will actually see that the ODPs were hitting the Didact's ship and no damage was being inflicted. So as you said there was nothing for truth to worry about.
-
Except the Keyship's defensive weapons were removed after the Covenant was formed between the Sangheili and San 'Shyuum as a sign of good will.
-
I thought they were just disabled.
-
The point is that whatever was done to them prevented them from ever being reactivated or reattached.
-
I guess. It could even go round just ramming ODP's and ships! "GTA- Keyship battle."
-
I doubt Rio was attacked since Covies are living there. Don't know about Europe or Asia. All we know is that Earth got hit really hard. Covenant operations were being conducted all over the world.
-
I thought the Elite that tried detonating a HAVOK was Rio.
-
Yeah, but that was in 2558. If Rio was hit or not in 2552, we don't know, but Covie asylum seekers are living there.
2558
I am stupid.
