Venus has been very bright over the past month, that is probably what you are seeing. Don't trust google sky maps 100%.

If its Venus i wouldn't be surprised. But i've been stargazing a long time and this is brighter than i've ever seen. And im pretty sure i saw venus later on, much less bright than my object, in a position that suggested it wasn't the object. As in would have had to move faster in that direction than the moon orbits the earth.

You probably saw jupiter later on as it sets after venus currently. Venus is the brightest thing in the sky that I have seen recently, and confirmed by [url=http://www.nightskyinfo.com/?ModPagespeed=noscript]this article[/url].

Ah, that makes a lot of sense. I'll keep an eye on it, just in case its something else, but for all intents and purposes its probably Venus. Thanks for the help! :D [spoiler]Damnit, i was totally hoping for some crazy space-alien shit[/spoiler]
