"There are systems in place" to make an overpowered weapon "less good" over time
I sure hope this doesn't mean "weapon corruption," where you have to keep repairing a weapon. Weapon repairs are the cancer of FPS games.

Edited by DJenser: 12/11/2013 4:30:51 PMPerhaps multiple kills against the same player while using a particular exotic (or otherwise high-level) weapon produce diminishing returns in damage output against that player over time?

I'm thinking something more complicated. Like weapon level / player level. This allows new players with low level weapons to compete with high level players with high level weapons. But also means high level players will need to either keep upgrading their weapons or keep finding new higher level weapons. So a weapon that seems broken when you first get it will get less powerful as you level up. This has a nice reflection of how the weapon will feel in your current PvE progress.

I would hope it to be more like damage scaling, I don't see why they can't do that

Edited by Apotheosis: 12/10/2013 3:31:12 AMI'm thinking it's more like they'll monitor global kills, and have automatic tweaks. So if 90% of the kills are coming from the Thunderlord, they'll auto-nerf the Thunderlord. I really like that idea, don't know if it'll be how it's actually implemented.
-
How would you nerf a kill? That seems impossible from a methodological standpoint.

Theoretically it'd nerf the gun. Say it does 85 damage, they note players are using it very frequently, the system drops it to 75 damage. That's what came to mind when I heard him say that. It's all speculation though. That would be something very easy to implement, I could write the code for it if I had access to Bungie's database.

Well yeah, that would be nerfing a gun, not a "kill."
