Ultimately not a huge difference. Just overclocked it stuck on new stickers and called it a day. It's nice if you have the cash for it though, but really no huge change. *sips tea*

So if someone were to water cool each card, they would both have the same maximum performance ceiling?

If you cooled them both...probably but the X will always be 'slightly higher', if you just cooled the R9 290 it'd probably be on par with the R9 290X seeing as it can direct it's power else wear. If you were to buy one of those, just get the R9 290, cheaper and pretty much the same thing. *sips tea*

I'll see if I can look at some benchmarks of overclocked R9 290s against GTX 780 Tis.
