What federation of states would be the most fearsome?
(Leaving out previously established unions/federations like the U.S., E.U., and Russia for the purposes of this poll).
[b]African Federation:[/b] While largely underdeveloped now, the African Continent has a lot of potential to be a huge player in the future. Oil, land, gold, diamonds, and economic opportunity will one day reach the continent, and if it works together as one giant entity, it will be incredibly powerful (and that's just economically).
[b]Latin American Federation:[/b] While most games like Call of Duty are fiction, the possibility of a Latin American Federation is a very real possibility that has been discussed before. Like Africa, they also have a lot of potential for the future, although they're a bit more advanced than them.
[b]Middle Eastern Federation:[/b] Strong, powerful, and the center of attention for the world right now, their oil supplies are only expected to last a few more decades. But don't underestimate how powerful it could be even after it no longer relies on oil exports for money.

None are particularly likely. Brazil is Portuguese speaking, a point of contention. Mercosur/UNASUR exist but aren't really worth mentioning. Africa is even less likely, given religious, linguistic, infrastructural and stability problems. The Middle East is never going to happen. The Shi'a-Sunni problem, not to mention the neo-Ottoman desires of Turkey, the fact Israel would never touch it, the Saudi-Iran cold war and Turkey trying to be a regional power broker while stuck between Europe and Asia. I'm going to be a bit different and go with Latin America. 600m people, largely democratic, vast natural resources (including most of the world's lithium), and slightly easier to deal with language problems since 2/3 of them speak the same language and the two languages are closely related.

Only Latin American Federation can form. Africa is religious and so is Middle East, therefore they will always be at war.

Edited by Euler: 12/6/2013 4:24:47 AMCurrently there are too many sectarian differences for any of those to realistically form, except perhaps for the Latin American federation. Arsenal have a better chance of winning a trophy than a Middle East coalition forming, which is to say, not likely. Also, I'm not convinced about the Middle East's long term stability if we manage to wean ourselves off our dependence on oil and natural gas - I'm not currently aware of any other major industries that are viable in the long term for any of the gulf states.

2 RepliesMiddle Eastern Coalition. Disagree as some will, there are some pretty big players in the Middle East. Laugh as we do at Iran, they do have quite a bit of weight, and so does Pakistan for that matter. If a MEC were to form, I would put them as the biggest threat to the west.

Obviously the Middle East. Not only do they have huge oil supplies, but there are already some wealthy and somewhat stable nations throughout the region.

Africa. They have a lot of development they can do, and they have more unexploited resources and unindustrialized areas to manipulate. That's why the major global powers are getting involved down there.

Middle Eastern Federation. Even after the oil, you still got extremely large natural gas deposits. Also, dem arms deals with the US. Also, Israel and Iran's militaries.
