>paying to get hazed and treated like shit, then turn around and do it to younger kids
>pretending a few hours of community service each semester makes up for living a retarded lifestyle
There's a reason the military doesn't haze anymore. It's not an effective way to build brotherhood and comeraderie, and in the greek life it's even less effective because you've got largely-uneducated drunk 20 year olds with zero leadership or useful work experience asserting a false authority just because of seniority in a club. If you enjoy it, more power to you. But don't pretend you're somehow better than anyone else on campus because you bro it up for a few hundred bucks a year.
Experience: got a bid for Theta Tau as a freshman.
sadly some kids these days actually think a frat is worthwhile and important ... hahahaha The fools and good money they are tossing away.
-
It is not for everyone, but it is great for some.

Your experience is getting 1 bid from a bottom tier fraternity? Military does still do forms of hazing, my close friend is finishing specialization school for the marine corps soon and told me stories from boot. 85% of fortune 500 CEOs are Greek so what were you saying about leadership?

Edited by HurtfulTurkey: 12/4/2013 10:08:38 PMHazing is strictly banned. It's still done, but if caught the servicemen involved usually have very harsh punishment. And yeah, the people in your frat aren't CEO's, and they've probably never had a shred of real leadership responsibility in their life. Doesn't take 4 year in a frat to realize how much of a farce it is. But like I said, if you like it, do whatever you want. Try to keep the MIC's to a minimum.

The people in my Fraternity* will grow to be CEOs and leaders, more so than non-greeks according to statistics. And hazing is 100% outlawed amongst Greek life as well and houses are punished if word gets out but like you said, it still happens.

Edited by HurtfulTurkey: 12/4/2013 10:48:22 PMBut seriously, I hope you have a good time. I hope it helps you succeed in life, and that you form really strong relationships with people. I hope you don't waste time raging every weekend and I hope you treat women better than the stereotype. I hope you have awesome grades and graduate on time and get the job you want right out of graduation. I don't like fraternities, but best of luck to you.

Such love. Thanks Turkey.

You're delusional if you think hazing isn't mandatory in any respected frat. Join Pike if you don't want to pay money to get harassed and disrespected. Does it help with networking? Maybe, depends on the fraternity. But there are tons of professional organizations you can join that accomplish the same thing. Have you seen frat rankings lately? It blows my mind that an average GPA of 3.0 is considered good for fraternities that brag about being such great stepping stones to success.

I said hazing still happens... I was pointing out that it is technically outlawed, just like in the military. I tell you what hazing definitely bonded me to my pledge brothers. And average GPA among greeks is higher than GDIs average... You were saying?
