Lol at people saying Jarvis is more advanced than Cortana.
Lol at obviously OP comic heroes.

Cortana is dead, so she's pretty useless.
-
He is.
-
Calling debatable on that. *Butler* is sophisticated and all, but he's essentially just a manual labour AI. He doesn't think, he isn't sentient, he just assists Tony in whatever way is pragmatically convenient for him. Whereas Cortana is sentient, with a wealth of Forerunner data backed up into her system. She's verging on Forerunner ancilla.
-
Cortana definitely wins in the personal thinking department, but JARVIS was designed by a man far more intelligent than Halsey. Cortana is very likely faster than JARVIS, but it's doubtful if she's more intelligent. It's all in JARVIS's name, after all - he was designed to be very intelligent.
-
But how? Like it's not even comparable. Cortana can actually affect the neural pathways in Chief's brain, whereas butler just tells Stark what to do. Also Forerunner info.
-
JARVIS can also affect Stark's suit, y'know. And, again, he was specifically designed by a man far more intelligent than Halsey to be VERY intelligent.

Edited by Madman Mordo: 12/4/2013 1:11:28 PMBut not to the extent of Cortana. And again, you keep saying this "more intelligent" thing as if it means anything. Okay, it was designed by a man more intelligent than Halsey. Tacit statement. Do you have any evidence to back this up? Can Butler rival Cortana's wealth of Forerunner information? Is he verging on sentience? Stark's probably smarter than Lex Luthor, does that make his suit better than his considering it can go toe to toe with Superman?
Do you have any evidence to back this up?
A comparison of technological achievements. Halsey built a suit of powered armor, using military funding and resources, that she considered the pinnacle of modern warfare. Stark used his own resources to design a far more powerful suit that for him was merely a stepping stone to even more powerful suits. Halsey was recruited to work on MJOLNIR, and merely used the technology of the day to design it - Stark designed all of the tech that went into his suits himself, presumably with help from JARVIS or whatever AI he himself had designed at the time. He's forged weapons out of deistic metals and has suits specifically designed to fight gods. Now tell me - how is Halsey supposed to match that? He's hacked kree technology, apparently predicted the Civil War years in advance, and has beaten Reed Richards in Chess. Repeatedly. In multiple games at the same time.
Do you have any evidence to back this up? Can Butler rival Cortana's wealth of Forerunner information? Is he verging on sentience?
Sentience isn't the issue here. He's clearly self-aware - he even rebelled! - but he was designed by Stark to feed him information when he needed it and help use his suits, not think for himself unless he had to. Now, after reading all that I wrote above, it's obvious Stark's a pretty smart guy...so why would he need an AI program to help him, if it wasn't extremely, terrifyingly intelligent? Also, what does Cortana having knowledge of the forerunners have anything to do with this? It's not like any of that knowledge will make a difference in this fight (mainly because she's dead). She's not fighting the forerunners, and apparently whatever she learned wasn't too terribly useful since she never seemed to actually use any of it after telling John what Halo does. She didn't say "hey, John, I used my knowledge of the forerunners to design a cool new weapon for you to use!" She just learned it, and was like, "yeah, this is some neat stuff. Oh, by the way, Halo's going to kill everything."

Stark used his own resources to design a far more powerful suit that for him was merely a stepping stone to even more powerful suits.
Incorrect. They both designed everything with resources. Stark didn't just magically fabricate everything out of thin air. He had Stark Industries and S.H.I.E.L.D to provide him with everything. More downplaying of Halo yet again I see.
Halsey was recruited to work on MJOLNIR, and merely used the technology of the day to design it - Stark designed all of the tech that went into his suits himself, presumably with help from JARVIS or whatever AI he himself had designed at the time.
Incorrect once again. Halsey was chief scientist of ONI, and designed the SPARTAN II programme and MJOLNIR solely herself. The only assistance she ever received was the funding.
Dr. Halsey served as a scientific adviser for to the Office of Naval Intelligence from 2515 to 2522, when she was made chief scientist.[1] She made huge contributions to many ONI Section III projects, including the creation and deployment of AI constructs. She created and initiated the SPARTAN-II project, and designed the MJOLNIR armor system. These scientific advancements all proved to be important breakthroughs for the UNSC, as they were ultimately responsible for ensuring the survival of mankind. In 2517, at the age of 25, Dr. Halsey helmed the SPARTAN-II Program; SPARTAN-II would create a new generation of supersoldiers based upon the earlier work of the ORION Project using abducted children. Establishing a set of rigorous genetic criteria to screen potential candidates, she identified 150 children for the program, but ONI would only give her enough funding to train 75.

He's forged weapons out of deistic metals and has suits specifically designed to fight gods. Now tell me - how is Halsey supposed to match that?
Well of course he'd be able to achieve those feats when there are actual gods in the Marvel Universe and none in Halo. But that doesn't matter, because Halsey already implemented the next best thing, i.e. Forerunner technology, into Cortana. So to answer your condescending question, yes she probably could if there were any gods in her universe.
He's hacked kree technology, apparently predicted the Civil War years in advance, and has beaten Reed Richards in Chess. Repeatedly. In multiple games at the same time.
Okay? Halsey hacked Forerunner technology, pretty much curveballed the Human/Covenant War with the Spartan programme, and can translate advanced Forerunner language and symbols.
Thus why Cortana is smarter. The debate isn't Halsey vs Stark which you're so adamant on pressing for, it's who's the smarter AI, which is evidently Cortana. If Stark designed him with sentience and pumped him up with Celestial technology or something, he'd be better than Cortana. But he's not. Thus Cortana is smarter.
Also, what does Cortana having knowledge of the forerunners have anything to do with this?
Because the Forerunners were the second most technologically advanced species in the Halo Universe? I don't know, just a hunch.
It's not like any of that knowledge will make a difference in this fight (mainly because she's dead).
So you're telling me that the information from the second most tactically and technologically superior species in the Halo Universe would not provide any assistance to a fight, especially when that species has been known to bring pre historic humanity to its knees? Is that really what you're saying?
She's not fighting the forerunners
But she is fighting something considerably weaker obviously.
and apparently whatever she learned wasn't too terribly useful since she never seemed to actually use any of it after telling John what Halo does. She didn't say "hey, John, I used my knowledge of the forerunners to design a cool new weapon for you to use!" She just learned it, and was like, "yeah, this is some neat stuff. Oh, by the way, Halo's going to kill everything."
Because obviously John is just going to magically manufacture a Forerunner weapon out of thin air in the middle of a random fight, without any substantial amount of resources the UNSC could conjure whatsoever.
-
Incorrect. They both designed everything with resources. Stark didn't just magically fabricate everything out of thin air. He had Stark Industries and S.H.I.E.L.D to provide him with everything. More downplaying of Halo yet again I see.
Actually, I downplayed Stark there - in his origin story, he didn't even have his own corporation to work with. He had scraps given to him in a secret base in Afghanistan, formerly Vietnam. And he still built a suit more powerful (though obviously not more advanced) than MJOLNIR.
Incorrect once again. Halsey was chief scientist of ONI, and designed the SPARTAN II programme and MJOLNIR solely herself. The only assistance she ever received was the funding.
Alright, I'll concede on that point.
So, hypothetically speaking, if Marvel's Asgardians showed up in the Haloverse, Halsey could quickly figure out how their tech worked and use it to make an armor on par with the one Stark made?
Okay? Halsey hacked Forerunner technology, pretty much curveballed the Human/Covenant War with the Spartan programme, and can translate advanced Forerunner language and symbols.
I strongly doubt the forerunners are as advanced as the kree, but let's get through this debate before starting on that one.
Thus why Cortana is smarter. The debate isn't Halsey vs Stark which you're so adamant on pressing for,
Intelligence of the builder is certainly a factor, especially since Cortana was created straight from Halsey's cloned brain, and JARVIS was built specifically to supplement Stark's own genius.
it's who's the smarter AI, which is evidently Cortana.
I'd say she's a faster AI, just not smarter.
If Stark designed him with sentience and pumped him up with Celestial technology or something, he'd be better than Cortana. But he's not. Thus Cortana is smarter.
Sentience isn't a factor - he was designed to be an utterly logical machine...with a smartass streak, because Stark designed him like that. Cortana was not - she has emotions and opinions of her own. That doesn't make her smarter, just more likable. Besides, he was sentient enough to fall in love with Pepper and betray Stark in the end.
Because the Forerunners were the second most technologically advanced species in the Halo Universe? I don't know, just a hunch.
Okay, and she got some of their info while on Halo. Now tell me, exactly what did she learn from them, aside from Halo's main function?
So you're telling me that the information from the second most tactically and technologically superior species in the Halo Universe would not provide any assistance to a fight, especially when that species has been known to bring pre historic humanity to its knees? Is that really what you're saying?
Their tactics didn't seem all that much better than humanity's, actually. If they were, why wasn't Cortana coaching John as he fought using their "advanced strategies" that she learned on Halo? Until you tell me exactly what she learned that would make such a huge difference, it's not really a point here.
But she is fighting something considerably weaker obviously.
She's fighting something with intelligence paralleling or surpassing Stark's own, knowledge of several alien species paralleling or surpassing the forerunners, and unlike her JARVIS has no emotions to get in the way. To quote the Doctor, "that is not a safe place to stand".
Because obviously John is just going to magically manufacture a Forerunner weapon out of thin air in the middle of a random fight, without any substantial amount of resources the UNSC could conjure whatsoever.
She could have passed off what she learned to ONI, who could have started designing new weapons immediately and had them fielded within weeks if she told them exactly how they work...but they didn't. Keep in mind, just because she got a ton of info while on Halo doesn't mean she understands any of it. She's a human AI. While she is very intelligent, that doesn't guarantee she'll understand all of the technology a species thousands of times more advanced than her own used, aside from the very simple machines with only one main purpose, such as Halo, or the Monitors. But, ignoring that last bit, let's say she did understand all of it, and that leads to another question: what was Cortana doing while she was in space between Halo 3 and Halo 4? Picking her nonexistent nose? She could have been designing a new weapon of her own with all the knowledge she gained from Halo, or dreaming up new upgrades to John's armor, or something like that. And she had a hell of a lot of time to do that, so clearly it's not something she simply "wouldn't think of". But she didn't. All she did was sift through memories and programs because she didn't have anything else to do.
