Honestly, the books are much better. Perhaps he dislikes them because a lot of people only see the movies and don't experience the full work of his father.

I guess you were right then. He apparently hates them because they are the reason so many people are attracted to his father's work.

Nah. He seems to feel that they are a detriment to the books as opposed to an enhancing aspect. If the movies had captured what he feels the books were about, which, to him, they don't at all, he would be perfectly fine with them.
