Most self-described 'introverts' are just socially awkward kids who wish they could be that extroverted guy at a party; I used to be one myself. One of my good mates is a true introvert and he can socialise, it's just that he likes his own space. If we hang out we just smoke a joint and chill, could never get him to come clubbing or whatever. But don't make excuses for your anti-sociality by chalking it down to introversion. The moment you start doing that is the moment you stop trying, and you'll wake up one day as a middle aged man all alone realising that you're not some brooding mystery the world would love to puzzle out, you're just a lonely aging guy who has few friends and no real relationships. Just my two cents.

  • I really don't think so. The antisocial know they are antisocial.

  • accurate enough but introversion and awkwardness can go hand in hand.

  • No. A true introvert is still socially capable and confident in who he is, he just doesn't feel a need to express that all the time and would rather be left to himself. But if he was thrown into a social situation he wouldn't be standing in the corner of the room, staring at the carpet with one bottle of beer in his hand all evening. People would be drawn to him, wondering why he's so aloof and they'd be attracted to the mystery. When I go to a party I can single out the awkward nerds from the introverts straight away. The awkward guys are on the periphery, wanting to join in but not quite knowing how. The introverts are there doing their own thing, with people around them wanting to talk and figure them out. I'm quite extroverted myself so when I'm in a social situation I'm quite a dominating personality, but I used to be one of the awkward lurkers who'd stay on the sidelines and wonder how to involve myself. At the time I thought it was because I was introverted, but now I realise that it's because I had little social capability.
