Ok, check the competitive community issues hopefully being brought to the attention of 343. Now then, let's discuss some other communities shall we? Forge, Customs, and Campaign?

It's kind of funny actually, every Halo game has many different communities surrounding them. And it'd be nice if some of the others could be paid attention to as well. The forge community's been taking hits. Whether it be from working with maps that have no colour and soul in them, pushing forgers away, to the tweaked engine that causes a few issues. And, funny enough, the Forge community is inherently tied to the customs community. Forgers have slowed with making maps, and their accompanying gametypes, because there's hardly anyone playing customs. And due to the lack of options for certain gametypes, the absence of even gametypes themselves, the custom community has little to play. Throw in the mentality that Reach introduced, the "I get squat for playing anything but MM," and the custom community is basically dead. In fact, I don't think I've ever seen anyone speak about it until now. The custom community is so dead, there's no one to speak for them. And we have the campaign community, the people who take screenshots, the people who search for things, like skull hunters, and glitchers. We can't forget the absence of theatre, which can be essential for all these people, whether it be to record their shenanagins or to save some epic moment they had on a tough run. These three communities are very quiet compared to their bigger brother and larger majority. But they are just as important.

  • I've found that the largest and most vocal community (AKA competitive) is generally the most obnoxious of them all.

They can be obnoxious, but some of them can be decent, and write out well thought out statements like the one posted by Admirals here that can actually describe and help present solutions to their problems. But I actually think the competitive community is smaller than most know. While they are no doubt the largest community, they have a large gathering of people in their ranks that aren't so much competitive, but are merely whiners and complainers. They don't belong to any group really, and are just that, simply people who complain. And due to the stigmas against the competitve crowd, who are no strangers to voicing their opinions right away, these people get grouped up with them automatically because of the similarities. Both can complain and offer no solutions. Both can sometimes create absolutely silly reasons for complaining. And most of all, both often say the same thing. But it's important to remember, even though the competitive community has a lot of stigmas around them, you're only seeing the bad apples, and the people that are merely "posing" as the competitive crowd. Kind of funny in a way. I like to think of the competitive community as christians, and the sub-community of simple complainers that resides, or should I say, is linked with by other communities, the wetburo baptist church. Most Christians aren't bad folks, but they have a bad rep because of all the stupid things some of their members have done, and further still when you toss in somebody like the WBC.

  • Oh yeah, I understand that. But on the grand scheme of things, custom games/ forging groups don't really have massive arguments and the campaign guys keep to themselves. I'd say a higher percentage if competitive are the obnoxious ones, though there are a few in each.

  • Well, that's understandable. The competitive community would be more open to arguments because, simple, they're competitive. The other groups have less conflict in general because by nature their respective aspect has less competitiveness to it and more easy going things. But all this talk gives me an idea.

  • I think I should start doing a little research into the various communities. Maybe try asking around a bit. I think somebody should bring their issues to light as well.

  • I call bolony. Someone has to try. Those folks who wrote that batch of writing did. I don't want to sit in the bloody dark for another Halo game.
