It's an Anime Cult Classic, I'm surprised you haven't watched it already.

Eh, it just seemed kinda...mainstream, if you will. Not as popular as other animes, like Naruto or something, but still well known.

Ha it's not really a Mainstream Anime dude...It existed all the way back in 2001, Naruto wasn't even a thing yet to my knowledge. The Manga had started in 1997, but the Anime wasn't out till October 2002.
