The red one looks a little evil. Cool, but ominous.
I don't know if textures are really the "in" thing. Logos tend to be very flat and minimalistic. Here's the [url=http://assets.democrats.org/images/blog/blog_post-logo_tag.gif]Democratic Party logo.[/url] There's not much personality to it, but it's inoffensive and appealing to anyone.
I think the Republican Party should try for a friendly, welcoming image. Their [url=http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/a/ab/GOP_Logo1.svg]current logo[/url] is okay for that. The rounded type doesn't look super serious, and they managed to keep the elephant.
The party logos have to appeal to a wide variety of people, and I think yours is too badass. I could see a Republican Captain America using your logo as a shield, in a gritty reboot directed by Christopher Nolan. Yours is edgy, but the current logo is something any Republican would stick on their car or wear on a t-shirt.
